“A global pandemic and the worst public health crisis for a generation.”

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson began his press conference from Downing Street by saying “It is clear that coronavirus continues and will continue to spread across the world and our country over the next few months…..it is now a global pandemic and the worst public health crisis for a generation.”

At the same time my inbox was flooding with events being cancelled and postponed.

The British Tourism and Travel show has been postponed to 11th-12th June 2020. The Creative Craft Show that was due to take place at Excel on 24-25 April has been cancelled. Concerts are being cancelled left, right and centre……and our group trip to a pottery workshop has been postponed until May.

Looking on the news websites I see that the New York Met Museum is to shutter over virus fears and Amsterdam’s top tourist attractions are to close. The National Hockey League, with 31 teams across the US and Canada, is going to pause its 2019-2020 season, less than a day after a similar decision by the NBA. Italy is already in lockdown.

Two points arise from this:

Firstly – we all need to take care, wash our hands and keep up-to-date with the current health advice being issued by our governments.

Secondly – my blogs will continue. I’ve visited a number of places that I can recommend you visit when the current crisis is over and things start to get back to normal. While it is safe to visit places, please support local businesses. But don’t put yourself in danger.

With a large backlog of blogs to be written, I have plenty to keep me going for quite a while. Do not see my reports as suggestions that you should  visit immediately. But please keep places in mind for the future.
